We were all set for a great night at Epping Oval, and had even built the stage, when a serious downpour confirmed the forecast’s warning – no outdoor carols this year.
Having deconstructed the short-lived stage, somebody said “we should put something on at All Saints!” Before long an ad-hoc team had sprung into action re-advertising and re-imagining the event for a new venue.
In the end, “Carols on the carpet” was great fun. Most of the musical material we’d prepared got an airing, including a major contribution by our musical friends from Lifeway Lutheran Church. Delicious Korean food was on hand thanks to Calvary Korean Church. An enthusiastic crowd celebrated and sang about the birth of Jesus the saving king just like we’d planned.
It didn’t happen in the venue we’d hoped for – but then neither did Jesus’ birth happen in the location his family would have liked!
