Favouritism.  It’s normal enough to have a preference for spending time with people who are like us – who speak the same language, eat the same food, have the same amount of money.  But sometimes favouritism is aspirational – we pay special attention to those who are a bit ahead of us in life, a bit higher up the ladder, because we sense that there might be a benefit for us!  In this sermon we consider the apostle James’ stark command to Christian believers:  Don’t show favouritism.  We look at his two reasons why favouritism must be shunned, and the two objections that he counters, noting that the issues he confronted in the first century AD are still at work today.
