Plastic Christmas

Plastic Christmas

Is their any limit as to what can be included as part of “Christmas decorations”?  In addition to masses of fairy lights, heavily laden Christmas trees and inflatable Santas, sleigh and reindeers, homes and yards are decorated with many and various nativity scenes; Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, and an array of domestic animals… But who or what should actually be included in the nativity scene? If we peel back the plastic, the tinsel, the lights and the ‘lobsters’, what is at the heart of Christmas?

Luke 2 gives us a profound answer:

Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

This Christmas, enjoy all that is good and fun about Christmas, but take a moment to peel back the plastic wrapped around Christmas, and consider afresh the wonder of the birth of the Saviour, the Messiah, the Lord! Jesus.
