Resurrection Hope…because Christ is raised!

Resurrection Hope…because Christ is raised!

Some of the Corinthians are in danger of losing their resurrection hope.  While they accept as true that Jesus is risen from the dead, they see no connection between His resurrection and their own future.

Summary – Can we have Resurrection Hope?

In this passage, the Apostle Paul exposes the inconsistency of their false belief while calling the Corinthians to embrace the resurrection hope held out in the gospel.

He demonstrates that if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ Himself is not raised.  And if Christ is not raised we have no hope for the future and we face a futile present, overshadowed by death.  The cross of Christ offers us nothing and our faith in Christ has no value.  We  remain condemned by the twin forces of sin and death (v17).

If Christ is not raised there is no hope.  The only alternative is mindless consumption “Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die.” (v32)

But Christ is raised!

His resurrection points to and confirms a legitimate future hope…a future hope that gives us confidence to persevere through hardship.

Resurrection Hope is Real and Trustworthy

Because He is risen, Christ’s sin-bearing death really was effective in providing the forgiveness we so desperately need.

Christ’s promise of eternal life secures an indestructible future that will be revealed at the last day!
