As we’ve heard the wisdom of the Teacher in our Ecclesiastes series so far, we’ve been confronted by his stark diagnosis of the world: everything – everything – is meaningless. The world is marked by injustice, chaos and absurdity. The Teacher has offered some coping strategies, but no ultimate solution.
Here at the end of the book (Ecclesiastes 12:8-14), the Narrator steps onto the stage to offer his wrap-up. Will he hose down the Teacher’s semi-blasphemous pessimism? And what about the New Testament – does it resolve the paradox and leave Ecclesiastes irrelevant for Christians?
A lot has happened since the Teacher’s words were written down. In this talk we consider whether and how his words are still applicable today.
