What does it mean to be ‘free’? Secular minded people tend to conceptualise personal freedom as ‘the right to autonomy and self-determination’, often to the exclusion of an ‘interfering’ God. But, is this right? Does this ‘secular’ freedom work? On a purely materialistic view of reality (aka atheism) is freedom even possible? What if God is deeply committed to our freedom, and has acted to secure our ‘complete’ freedom in Jesus Christ?
Jesus said of himself, ‘if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed’ (John 8:36). What does he mean? Could Jesus be the answer to our yearning for ‘complete freedom’?
