God’s promises can often seem laughable. Abraham and Sarah both respond with laughter when God promises them a son. God had shown his sovereign power through many things that Abraham has experienced, and yet they both doubt that this promise will be fulfilled. But then, even though Sarah is well past childbearing age, we read in Genesis 21 that,
the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.
This sermon explores how knowing the faithfulness of God can inspire us to put our faith in him and to take our part in his mission to the world.
…faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
