The God of the insignificant

The God of the insignificant

Psalm 8 gives us answers to a couple of life’s big questions:

Who is God and what is He like? Who are we and why are we here?

Verses 1-2 tell us our God is personal (telling us His name – “LORD” (Yahweh, or ‘I AM’) and inviting us to a relationship with Him) and praiseworthy. Verses 3-8 encourage us that though we might feel insignificant in the vastness of God’s creation, we are in fact of greatest importance to our God. Psalm 8 ultimately points us to Jesus (Hebrews 2:5-9), as the answer to both big questions – He is both God and Man, ruling all of creation as the one who ‘was made a little lower than the angels’, and is now ‘crowned with glory and honour’.
